KAT Scan... 2

Its Friday again!
AAANNNDDD.... we are back with the second trailer of Kitnay Aadmi Thay? as the copies look to tumble out of the press any moment now.
<Insert bhaiyon, behnon, dil thaam ke etc speech in Ameen Sayani's voice>

So, as promised, here is the second quiz based on yet another chapter of the book.
(And I am still going with the KAT Scan. Thought of doing a pun like KATrina, KATey nahin kaTtey etc but felt serious readers *snigger snigger* would get put off.)

The last chapter of the book is Picture Abhi Baaki Hai: 15 Unusual The Ends - which takes a look at how Bollywood ends it movies.
Therefore, this quiz is on the end-frames of Hindi movies.

* * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * *
1. A very popular way to end a film - a family portrait. Which family is it?
2. Typically, fluorescent clothing and apparel (in this case, violins!) are the hallmarks of either huge hits (Yaarana) or huge flops. Which movie is this from?
3. Arguably, Amitabh's most successful romantic pairing was with Parveen Babi. Which movie is this romantic closure from?
4. Name this mystery thriller starring the biggest star of the 1970s, which made a request similar to Psycho ("Please don't give away the ending. It is the only one we have.")
5. What is this inverted triangle in front of twin doors supposed to signify? Who are inside those two doors?

6. Love, peace, hair grease. Thus ends which reincarnation saga?
Bloody difficult question!
7. Simple. Which film?
8. Probably the only film (apart from Waisa Bhi Hota Hai Part II) that had a connection between its opening frame and closing frame. Name the film.

Can you see how deadly this book is?
The first chapter is one on innovative title sequences. The last one is on interesting end frames. What more do you want?
Oh, you pervert! Go and follow @iPoonamPandey for all that. There is only good, clean fun in this book.
Note to parents with school-going children: The book is U-rated. Okay, U/A (Parental guidance). But buy one copy for each kid, so that they don't fight with each other.
(Classy sales pitch, no?)

1. As most people have said, it is the Sharma-Shankar family from Gol Maal.
2. Roop Ki Rani Choron Ka Raja – the huge flop that spend tons of money on Sridevi’s costumes, Anil Kapoor’s stunts and fluorescent violins.
3. Mukhtar Singh ka naam toh tumne suna hoga? Kaalia is the film.
4. Benaam, in which AB was persecuted by an unnamed adversary.
5. Hema-Dharmendra and Hema-Sanjeev of Seeta Aur Geeta were being urged to practice family planning (and presumably, safe sex too).
6. Neel Kamal. Sorry about the ‘hair grease’ non-sequitur.
7. Chupke Chupke.
8. Waqt. Many people have named the opening line also.

7.5 – Straight Cut (for demanding extra 0.5 points for efforts AND giving a cool trivia on Karz)
7.0 – Avishek, Abhishek Mukherjee
6.0 – Plaban Mohanty
5.0 – JN, Manish Mittal, Pankaj Parashar, SG, Shazia, Thequark
4.0 – M, Meghbalika, Pallavi, Rahul (lost points by adding Ram aur Shyam behing Seeta aur Geeta), Vikram Bondal
3.0 – Kaptain Kantaap, Khalil Sawant
2.5 – Kuntala (0.5 points as early bird prize)
2.0 – Banno, Dhinvira, Gargi Mehra, KeepingItSimple, Korak Dutta

Interesting :)

If it is not too much of a trouble (actually it is), you should create a blog for the book with YouTube links to all the trivia?

Btw, make the sales pitch more enticing - how about baraah pe ek or gaththe pe chaar schemes

1. Golmaal
2. Roop ki Rani Choron ka Raja
4. Ittefaq
5. Seeta aur Geeta. (Triangle = Nirodh)

@Subhash - Flipkart et al will be giving very enticing schemes, I am sure.
But *ahem* in the Bollywood tradition, shouldn't the book sell in black?

1. Movie is 'Golmaal' the older one. Family is of Bhawani Shankar and Ram Prasad(or Lakshman Prasad)
4. Jewel Thief??
5. Kishan Kanhaiyya. The sign is of family planning. They are inside with their respective wives. Madhuri and Anil Kapoor in one and other one is Shilpa Shirdokar and Anil Kapoor in the other one.
7. Chupke Chupke
8. Waqt

4. Guessing to be Dhund (1973). :S

6. Neel Kamal. (Ahh!)

Hi Diptakirti, great questions, Sir!
1. Golmaal
2. Big flop + Violin motif – Has to be Roop ki Rani Choron ka Raja
3. Kaalia (Mukhtar Singh ka naam toh suna hi hoga……)
4. BE-NAAM (Yeaahhh!!, feel so happy someone asked this question)
5. Dharmendra + Hema and Sanjeev Kumar + Hema (Seeta aur Geeta) – The inverted triangle can only mean “Nirodh”, makes sense, since the couples are having their Suhaag-raat!!!
6. Toughie!! My answer is KARZZZZ! It’s an inspired guess pieced through your hints – Hair grease = Himesh’s ugly mop; Peace = Shanti = Om Shanti Om + its reincarnation + it’s a love story + it was “bloody difficult” to sit through this movie. Boss, even if the answer is wrong, I demand 0.5 for the sheer effort. 
7. Chupke Chupke
8. Waqt (the Balraj Sahani one)
By the way, Karzzzz reminded me about the original Karz and even that had an interesting end-frame in my opinion. Rishi + Tina on the back seat of an open car, cootchie-cooing, and Pran saab in the drivers seat holding up a “The End” placard covering Rishi-Tina’s faces!!!
Thanks, and keep up the great work.

1. The extended family in Gol Maal.
2. Clueless. Point-blank guess: Yaadon ki Baarat?
3. Kaalia. The Mukhtar Singh explanation. And yes, Amitabh's best pairing was indeed with Parveen Babi.
4. Benaam.
5. Can this be, oh, can this really be representing the REAL-LIFE love triangle that was going on between the three leading characters in the movie (which eventually prevented You-Know-What from happening in Sholay)? Behind the doors were, of course, Dharmendra (with a ridiculous earring), Sanjeev Kumar and a couple of Hema Malinis.
6. Neel Kamal. And yes, I object: that was a really obscure question, almost ungettable without the reincarnation hint. And I must admit that I was misled by the "hair grease" bit.
7. Chupke Chupke.
8. Waqt. The movie begins with "The moving finger writes..."

1. The Original Gol..MAAAL :-D the family picture at the end, after Utpal Dutt has lost his mustache.
2. Roop Ki Raani, Choron ka Raaja (I have never seen the full film, but know this image somehow. Utube helped confirm the guess).
3. 4. 5. No idea
6. Not Karz. :-)
7. Buddhah Mil Gaya?
8. No idea at all.

Sales pitch to pata nahi, but Ameen Sayani's voice would have been pretty awesome.

Dhinvira said...

1. Golmaal. The person in center seems like Utpal Dutt and the one on the corner leftmost is amol palekar

2. is Karz.. guessing because of the violin

6. Angoor..

7th is chupke chupke

1.Gol Maal. Have played Karaoke with its dialog.

2.Roop Ki Rani Choron Ka Raja. I had read about its screening and excitedly took family to the screening only to find it was to be released 'next week'. Luckily we never went to see the film.

3. Kaalia

4. Too tough. It looks like a 60s-70s movie.

5. That is family planning logo so must be a Sanjeev Kumareque family drama.

6. I tried many reincarnation movies, like OSO, Karz, Milan, Kudrat, Prem. Even Mehbooba.

7. Chupke chupke. Om prakash breaking the fourth wall to apologize and give the avuncular advice

8. Waqt. Greatest lost and found saga ever written. Even when I consider Manmohan Desai to be a genius.

2. Yuvraaj ? Ghai's brain-buster

3. Khuddar ?

4. Biggest star of the 70s has to be Kaka. Raaz ?

5. The inverted isoceles triangle can only mean swashtya kendre mein muft milne wali nirodh. Am sure this is a double role movie. Seeta aur Geeta ?
